Soul of a Nation

First it is always good to hear from Rand Paul

Something is going on in the soul of our nation. I believe the feelings that we have bottled up in the past nine months of tight restrictions on our life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness can only be healed by God Himself. It seems we have been watching tyranny’s attempt at being born. The taking of George Floyd’s life was a spark in a flammable atmosphere that is revealing complex problems and deep needs.

What is sin? Until we can answer that question, we will never figure out what just happened in our country this year. What was the cause, what was the effect? Seeing the heartbreaking taking of innocent life is a terrible thing. I have been thanking God for the leadership I have seen coming from the black community for the last several years and I certainly have heard some amazing testimonies in the last four months.

In 1873 Charles Finney a leader in the Second Great Awakening in the United States wrote an article titled “The Decay of Conscience.” It touched on the believer’s responsibility for the affairs of the government saying:

“If immorality prevails in the land, the fault is ours in a great degree. If there is a decay of conscience, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the public press lacks moral discrimination, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the church is degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the world loses its interest in religion, the pulpit is responsible for it. If Satan rules in our halls of legislation, the pulpit is responsible for it. If our politics become so corrupt that the very foundations of our government are ready to fall away, the pulpit is responsible for it.”

Quoted from The Decay of Conscience by President Charles G. Finney.

Until we look at history and become able to see the evidence of spiritual conspiracies by the devil to destroy human beings through many different movements, including ethnic, religious, and ideological genocide, we will never understand the cause of our situation. We are truly like sheep.

Isaiah 53:6    NKJV

All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

All of us are vulnerable to being led astray by an ideology with a purpose to promote war, communism, or any number of goals. This is a time to let God influence our spirits more than men by reading and meditating on the Bible. Our children’s lives and their children depend on it.
